In West Indies Tour Pujara's Removed From India's Squad

In This Article:Cheteshwar Pujara has reportedly being used as an apology for India's poor batting performance in the WTC Final, according to Sunil Gavaskar.

Following the announcement of India's selection for the two-Test series against the West Indies in July, one of the major talking points was Cheteshwar Pujara's absence. According to rumours, Yashasvi Jaiswal may be assuming Pujara's former No. 3 position, which he occupied for the past ten years.

Sunil Gavaskar Said:

However, Sunil Gavaskar, a former captain of India, believes that Pujara has been made a "scapegoat" by dropping him following India's largely dull batting performance against Australia in the World Test Championship final. This was an opportunity for the selectors to rest a number of senior players and give opportunities to more younger players.

Gavaskar questioned the fact that there was no press conference held to reveal the team, therefore queries cannot be directed at the selectors. What standards apply to removing a particular person and keeping those who have failed. I don't know because there isn't any media engagement these days where you could actually ask the chairman of the selecting committee or anybody these questions.

The former India skipper, who is regarded as one of the greatest openers in Test cricket history, said age shouldn't be a factor if Pujara is benched for that reason. In the WTC final, which India lost to Australia by an innings of 209 runs, Pujara was not the only Indian batsman who struggled to provide an important offensive output, he added.

In the two innings, Pujara was defeated for 14 and 27 runs. In the first innings, he was bowled leaving the ball; but, in the second, while attempting an out-of-character upper cut shot, he was caught behind. However, only Ajinkya Rahane was able to score more than 50 runs during the game, as India's top four batsmen were destroyed within the opening over Only 71 runs were scored in the first innings' 20 overs.

conclusion:

Gavaskar said about Pujara, Yes, He has participated deeply in County cricket, and he is very knowledgeable about the particulars of playing with the red ball. There is nothing wrong with players being able to play till they are 39 or 40 years old today. They are all in excellent physical condition, so I don't believe age should be a problem as long as you are scoring runs or getting wickets. There is little doubt that only one man has been picked out, as the others equally failed short. I thought the batting was poor. Except for Ajinkya Rahane, no one else scored any runs. Therefore, the selectors need to explain why Pujara has been made the fall guy.
